The World Day for Safety and Health at Work, initiated by the International Labour Organization (ILO), a specialised agency of the United Nations, takes place annually on 28 April. It promotes awareness of safe working conditions and the protection of employees. Many think this relates only to fundamental issues such as decent working conditions or banning child labour. However, even companies where this is already the norm can make a conscious effort to improve working conditions and to protect health and safety in the workplace.
Skin protection is occupational safety
When it comes to occupational health and safety, the protection of our skin is often forgotten and yet it is one of the most important issues - especially for manual or caring professions. In these careers, the skin is exposed to a broad range of stresses which can irritate the skin, including moisture, external exposure to foreign bodies, extreme temperatures and incorrect cleaning. In some professions, this has a particularly severe impact on the hands.
Why is skin protection in the workplace so important?
The skin is our body's largest organ and acts as a barrier against external influences such as dirt, bacteria and chemicals. In many workplaces, hands are exposed to a variety of stresses on a daily basis, be it through contact with cleaning agents, chemicals or other irritating substances. Without adequate protection, this can lead to skin problems such as irritation, inflammation and even serious illness.
Prevention as the best skin protection
As experts in hand hygiene and skin care, we know that preventative measures are key to avoiding skin problems. This includes the use of protective equipment such as gloves and skin protection creams to protect the skin from harmful substances, as well as the regular use of skin care products to keep the skin healthy and hydrated.
PURELL® products are specifically designed to protect and care for the skin, even in the toughest working conditions. From our hand sanitisers that reliably kill bacteria without drying out the skin, to our hand cleansing products that moisturise and protect the skin from drying out, we have your skin's wellbeing in mind.
Educate employees
World Day for Safety and Health at Work can be a good opportunity to raise awareness among your employees and ensure that appropriate skin protection and skin care measures are taken in the workplace. This can include implementing training programmes on the correct handling of chemicals, providing appropriate protective equipment and promoting a healthy skin care routine.
Together for comprehensive skin protection
At PURELL® , we want to help companies and employees create healthy and safe working environments in which skin care plays a central role. After all, healthy skin is not only crucial for the well-being and productivity of your employees, but also for their long-term health.
