Summer is here and with it barbecues, suntan lotion and the long-awaited summer holidays. It’s time to embark on exciting adventures and create unforgettable memories. Whether you prefer to be alone or with friends or family; go for short trips or a long journey; or simply spend lots of time in your own garden, summer is the ideal time for a bit of relaxation. That relaxation can look very different depending on your outlook though – what’s your preferred holiday style?
Peace and summer in your own home
When do you really have time to enjoy your own garden or balcony, if not in summer? The neighbours are on holiday, the barbecue is set up and you’ve got your feet cooling off in the paddling pool. We can now really make use of the place that we spend so much time and effort maintaining all year round. And if your space gets a little too cramped, you can always try out activities in your own city that you never really have time for. Most of us don’t make regular use of the local museums or attractions, yet with a little research the familiar surroundings suddenly become a little holiday adventure. Add in a delicious picnic or an overnight stay in a tent, and suddenly local parks or lakes also hold great holiday potential.
Wandering afar
If you prefer the jetset lifestyle, the world is your oyster. Choose your destination, book a flight and off you go to a completely different summer world. Europe in particular offers a great variety of different countries, colourful cultures and the very best culinary delights within just a few hours of travel. It's easy to switch off, forget your everyday life and fall into holiday mode. Strolling through Italian alleyways, fishing at Swedish fjords or enjoying the sunsets in Portugal – we defy anyone to keep their minds on to-do lists and life admin.
Discover your own country
However, great sunsets, picturesque beaches and breathtaking mountain scenery can also be found closer to home. Sometimes the most incredible travel experiences are waiting to be discovered on your own doorstep (okay, within a 6-hour radius on the motorway).
The diversity of our home country is and remains completely undiscovered by many. And yet it is actually one of the most obvious options, isn't it? A road trip uncovering hidden corners, hiking in various national parks, camping adventures, bicycle tours or a relaxing beach holiday at the North Sea or Baltic Sea. Germany really does have a lot to offer and by exploring our own backyard, we not only support local businesses, but perhaps also gain a new and deeper appreciation for the place we get to call home.
But whatever you choose, make this summer an unforgettable and relaxing experience. Have fun travelling (or making the most of your balcony) and stay healthy! Remember, peace of mind is always worth a little extra, so don’t forget to pack what you need to clean and sanitise the surfaces in holiday homes or aeroplanes or cleanse hands on the road.
